Signorielli, N., Gerbner, G., & Morgan, M. (1995). Violence on television: The cultural indicators project. Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, 39 (2), 278-283.

Abstract:  Discusses violence on TV based on information gathered through the Cultural Indicators Project, an ongoing research effort that has monitored primetime and weekend daytime broadcast TV programming and has examined relationships between TV viewing and conceptions of social reality since 1967. The author discusses how violence is defined, measured, and analyzed. It is concluded that the Cultural Indicators database of approximately 3,000 programs and 35,000 characters is a unique and valuable resource.
